Peppermint is a fast-growing perennial ground cover with aromatic, red-tinted leaves and stems. It is easy to grow, with small lilac flowers appearing in summer, and is happy in pots or the ground. Cultivate well drained soil before planting. Tip prune regularly to promote fresh growth. Grow in pots to limit spread. Prune back hard in spring. Infused leaves make a tea reputed to relieve symptoms of colds except in infants. Also used in confectionary,
